Sao Tome, independent from the Portugese since 1975 , is situated at the Gulf of Guinea and is Africa's smallest country. This 2 islands state of 200,000 inhabitants is served by the port of Sao Tome. Traditionally the country main export product is cocoa known as to be one of the finest qualities in the world. Recent oil finds in Sao Tome's territorial waters might change the economical landscape of Sao Tome dramatically although exploitation of the oil fields are still to start. 
The small port of Sao Tome consist of one quay, but is of such shallow draft that most ocean carriers can't berth at the quay without running aground.  The port uses 4 towed barges to discharge and load , mainly containerized cargos, to and from the carriers at anchorage. The port has open container storage facilities and few warehouses which are used for container stuffing and stripping and storage of bagged cement.
